A New Civil War?

The American Civil War was by no means the only Civil War in history. It may be a sensible place to begin an examination of what would happen if a Second Civil War were to occur inAmerica, but consider what some of the other Civil Wars had in common. The American Civil War began with the secession of Southern slave-holding states and their effort to secure their defenses and borders. The English Civil War began with Parliament ostensibly severing ties with the monarchy. The Spanish Civil War began with Fascist Spanish military leaders revolting against the Republican forces. Secession may be the commonality between all of these; the South from the Union, Parliament from the Monarchy, and Fascist Military from Republican forces. Now, there may be division in this country as it stands, but along political lines. One party does not hold more military sway than the other one. The Republican Party is not about to secede from the Democratic Party and Congress is not going to secede from the President. States couldn’t even secede, as within state boundaries, factions spring up regionally. Pennsylvania is often referred to as “Philadelphia and Pittsburgh with Alabama in between” and Republican Georgia has a deeply-Democrat Atlanta right in the center of things. How could we expect individual states to secede, especially when the powerful military forces of the United States rest entirely under Federal control?
